China’s government has indicated it may introduce further stimulus measures to turn around the nation’s slowing economy.

The government said monetary policy must be more “flexible” and fiscal policy more “forceful”, according to a statement released at the end of the Central Economic Work Conference by the official Xinhua News Agency on Monday.

The nation’s leaders said they want to create “appropriate monetary conditions for structural reforms” in an effort to boost growth, including widening the fiscal deficit and stimulating the housing market.

Further stimulus measures have been called for following a devaluation of the yuan in August, weaker-than-expected economic data and the stock market decline that started in June.
