Hillary Clinton's doctor has provided additional medical information for the Democrat nominee in the US presidential election, saying that she is in good health having recovered well from pneumonia.

The letter from Clinton's physician Lisa Bardack is an attempt by her campaign to put to bed any doubts over the candidate's health, as the focus of the election increasingly centres around the condition of both her and Republican rival Donald Trump.

"My overall impression is that Mrs Clinton has remained healthy and has not developed new medical conditions this year other than a sinus and ear infection and her recently diagnosed pneumonia," Bardack wrote.

"She continues to remain healthy and fit to serve as president of the United States."

Clinton was forced to cancel three days of campaigning, including a trip to California, after leaving a 9/11 commemoration ceremony abruptly on Sunday morning. She had previously been diagnosed with pneumonia but her campaign decided not to disclose the information initially.

Trump and his supporters have attacked the former Secretary of State's supposedly weak mental and physical condition, with the Republican questioning her ability to deal with pressure situations in a speech in Ohio.

"It is hot, and it is always hot when I perform because the crowds are so big," said Trump. "The rooms were not designed for this kind of crowd. I don’t know, folks. You think Hillary Clinton would be able to stand up here and do this for an hour? I don’t know."

Following the additional record release by the Clinton campaign, pressure will now come upon Trump to release more detailed medical records, after his unsubstantiated claim that he would be "the healthiest individual ever elected".
