Clinton maintains big lead over Trump with Hispanic voters

Hillary Clinton appears to be holding on to a huge lead over presidential rival Donald Trump with Hispanic voters in the US, according to a Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Telemundo poll.

The survey shows Clinton maintains her lead with a rapidly growing part of the population, even as her ability to maintain the support of younger voters and retain the backing of African Americans show signs of faltering.

The figures show Clinton with 65% of support among likely Hispanic voters, versus Trump on 17% and the two third- party candidates sharing the rest.

Republican nominee Trump has hardly endeared himself to the Hispanic community, promising to build an "impenetrable" wall between the US and Mexico and taking a hard line on immigration.

The two nominees will face off next week in the first of a series of television debates about their policies, with Trump and Clinton expected to clash on key issues such as immigration and the economy.

The US election will take place in November, with Trump and Democrat rival Clinton boasting some of the lowest levels of popularity among candidates ever seen.

Multiple controversial comments from Trump and his campaign have damaged his reputation among some voters, while Clinton has found it difficult to shrug off allegations of deceit owing to questions surrounding the transparency of her campaign.
