Two polls released on Monday show Hillary Clinton maintaining her lead over Donald Trump in the US presidential election, by as much as four percentage points.

The Democratic candidate saw a significant lead disintegrate after she was the subject of a further probe into her use of a private email server as secretary of state, of which she was cleared at the weekend.

National polls conducted by Bloomberg and The Washington Post/ABC News both show Clinton with a small lead over Trump, the former by three points (44-41) and the latter by four points (44-40).

Both national polls are the last the respective publications will post before - it is hoped - the results will become clear early on Wednesday morning.

As the race to become the next US president enters its final few hours, the Republican has once again reiterated his belief that the system is "rigged" against him, following news that Hillary Clinton was cleared by the FBI.

The former secretary of state was cleared of any wrongdoing after a second probe from the FBI's James Comey into her private email server while in office.

"Hillary Clinton is guilty. She knows it, the FBI knows it, the people know," Trump said at a rally in Detroit. "And now it's up to the American people to deliver justice at the ballot box on November 8th."
