Dijsselbloem confirmed late on Thursday that he had received the new proposals from Athens, which will need to be agreed by its creditors in order for the country to receive further bailout funds.

EU leaders are due to meet with Greece on Sunday to go over the plans, which French President Holland has called "serious and credible".

He added: “The Greeks have just shown determination to stay within the Eurozone.”
