Retail sales in the Eurozone unexpectedly fell in November, figures released by Eurostat showed.

Sales were down a seasonally-adjusted 0.3% compared with a 0.2% drop the previous month, missing economists' expectations for a 0.2% increase.

On the year, retail sales rose 1.4% versus expectations for a 2% gain.

“The numbers…did not include any of the festive period, so many are hoping for a much bigger move higher when numbers are released for January,” said James Hughes, chief market analyst at GKFX.
