Eurozone unemployment rate steady at 5-year low in June

The eurozone unemployment rate was unchanged in June, according to the latest figures from Eurostat, in line with economists’ expectations.

The unemployment rate came in at 10.1%, steady compared to May and remaining at the lowest rate recorded in the bloc since July 2011.

On the year, it was down from 11% in June 2015.

Unemployment in the EU-28 group of countries was stable compared to May at 8.6% but down from 9.5% in June 2015. It remains at the lowest rate recorded in the EU-28 since March 2009.

Among the member states, the lowest unemployment rates in June were recorded in Malta, the Czech Republic and Germany, at 4%, 4.1% and 4.2%, respectively. The highest rates were seen in Greece, at 23.3% and Spain, at 19.9%.
