There was good news for Renault on Sunday after French industry data revealed that the car-maker had delivered an improved performance in October, with sales up 2.9%, driven by increased demand for the company's new models.

The figures come after the company said on Thursday that sales had been weaker in previous months as it struggled to keep pace with increased European demand.

The report showed that overall national car registrations climbed 1% last month, increasing to 161,756, according to Autovista-DataNeo.

However, because this October had one less selling day than the comparative period in 2014, the year-on-year figure was lower.

Meanwhile, fellow car manufacturer PSA Peugeot Citroen saw its registrations slide 5.6%, while Toyota motored 8.1% higher.

Notably, Volkswagen registrations were also higher, up 4.4%. The impact of the emissions scandal on sales is not expected to have affected current figures yet as purchase decisions are made in advance of the registration.
