Consumer sentiment in the euro area´s second-largest economy was stable in September, albeit with a slight shift towards improving conditions evident, according to economists.

INSEE´s consumer sentiment index for France was unchanged at a reading of 97 in September, as expected by the consensus.

The survey results pointed to "stable demand conditions in French households in recent months", according to Claus Vistesen, chief Eurozone economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics.

To back up his arguments Vistesen pointed to marginal improvement in the subindices linked to consumers´ "future standard of living" and intention to carry out large purchases.

Worries about unemployment also fell slightly while households´ expected savings rate rose.
