A customs officer in France has been killed during an investigation into arms trafficking, Le Monde reported.

The incident happened on Monday morning in Saint-Jean-du-Var, Toulon.

Prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux said the man allegedly opened fire with an assault rifle, killing the officer and injuring a second customs official as well as a police officer.

He said there is no link between the incident and any possible terrorist act.
