German inflation surprisingly slowed to 0.2% in December, with economists having forecast an acceleration.

In December, the Federal Statistical Office said the harmonised consumer price index was expected to show a year-on-year increase of 0.2%, down from 0.3% the month before and short of economists' predictions of a rise to 0.4%.

The harmonised level of CPI remain unchanged compared with November 2015, again short of the market's expectations, with a 0.1% consensus estimated.
