Italian imports jump in August

Italian imports jumped by 4.4% month-on-month in August in seasonally adjusted terms to reach €31.69bn, according to the country's statistics office, ISTAT.

In parallel, exports were up by 2.6% to €35.46bn, resulting in a trade surplus of €3.77bn.

When measured in terms of quarterly rates of change, exports rose by 1.1% and imports by 2.7%.

The Italian import price index was flat month-on-month but lower by 1.5% year-on-year, ISTAT said.
