Industrial production in Italy retraced in September a large part of the previous month's advance but was nevertheless up by 1.2% for the third quarter as a whole.

In seasonally adjusted terms, output declined by 0.8% over the month (consensus: -1.0%) and up by 1.8% year-on-year in calendar-adjusted terms, ISTAT said.

Capital goods production saw the biggest slump, falling by 5.8% against August, while that of intermediate goods dipped 2.8% and durable goods shrank 1.0%.

Energy output on the other hand jumped 3.3% and that of non-durable consumer goods by 1.6%.
