New York bombing suspect detained by police

Police in New York City have reportedly detained a suspect during their investigation into a bombing in the Chelsea district on Saturday night which injured 29 people.

A photo was released of 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahmani by the New York Police Department on Monday and reports suggest that he is being held in custody after a shootout with police in Linde, New Jersey.

Footage released via social media site Twitter appears to show Khan Rahmani being taken into an ambulance with multiple injuries.

An explosion occurred on Saturday night in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, with no group yet taking responsibility for the attack.

Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo had a strong message for those who perpetrated the incident.

"Whoever placed these bombs, we will find and they will be brought to justice," Cuomo told journalists at the scene. "We will not allow these kinds of people and these kinds of threats to disrupt our life in New York."

All those that were injured in the blast were released from hospital on Sunday morning.

CCTV footage of the areas around the attack were released on social media over the weekend, and sees bystanders running from the scene.

On Sunday night, a further five bombs were discovered at a New Jersey train station, with reports saying that one of them exploded as bomb experts were working to disarm them.

There was no immediate reports of any injuries or damage from the explosion.
