US President Donald Trump praised China’s effort to make rights with Washington by continuing farm purchases a day after trade talks were indefinitely delayed.

In an interview with Fox News, the president said that he was having “a very hard time” with Beijing but acknowledged that the country was trying to make up for it with purchases of beef, soybeans and corn, including as recently as during the previous week.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro later told CNBC that the phase-one trade deal is still on track despite the delay in negotiations.

The delay comes as tensions between both sides rise again on issues such as Taiwan, Hong Kong and Washington's battle against Chinese tech companies Huawei and TikTok.

According to Bloomberg, farm goods are not the only purchases that will continue as US oil exports to China may more than double in September.

Nevertheless, China is also restricting imports in certain areas due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and fears of a possible new outbreak.

Recently, the region of Guangzhou halted imports of frozen meat and seafood from coronavirus-hit areas after the virus showed up on Brazilian chicken wings. And China’s Ministry of Commerce announced an anti-dumping investigation into Australian wine, Bloomberg also reported on Tuesday.
