Trump attacks his own attorney general Sessions after recusal

US President Donald Trump has launched an extraordinary attack on Attorney General Jeff Sessions after the country’s top justice official recused himself from any investigation into last year’s election.
In an interview with The New York Times, Trump said he would never have chosen Sessions for the position had he known he was going to recuse himself.
In March Sessions pulled himself from any proceedings against members of the Trump campaign as he believed he could not remain impartial having been part of the campaign.
Trump’s presidency has been largely overshadowed by constant allegations of collusion between members of his campaign with Russia during last year’s battle with Hillary Clinton.
"Jeff Sessions takes the job, gets into the job, recuses himself, which frankly I think is very unfair to the President," Trump said.
Several other administration officials were also heavily criticised in the explosive interview
“Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else.”
Several other administration officials were also heavily criticised in the explosive interview, which was conducted in the Oval Office by the US news organisation.
He also took aim at the special counsel appointed to oversee the FBI investigation into the Russia links, Robert Mueller.
When asked if Mueller and his team were to investigate his family finances would it be a ‘red line’ for him, Trump responded in the affirmative.
“I would say yes,” without specifying what action he would take. “I think that’s a violation. Look, this is about Russia.”
