Trump doubles down on Sessions criticism as firing reports grow

US President Donald Trump fired another barrage of criticism towards his attorney general Jeff Sessions on Tuesday as reports suggest he is preparing to sack the country’s top law official.
Trump has launched a tirade of attacks on Sessions in recent weeks after the attorney general recused himself in the ongoing investigation into links between the President’s election campaign and Russia.
In an early morning tweet directed at the former senator, Trump said he was ‘very weak’ on pursuing Hillary Clinton and intelligence leaks.
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!” Trump said on Tuesday.
Last week in an interview with The New York Times, Trump said he would have chosen someone else for the attorney general role if he had known Sessions was going to recuse himself.
According to several reports, the President has spoken to senior advisers about replacing Sessions, with some suggesting that former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani could be in line to take up the position.
The FBI is still conducting an investigation into Russian meddling in last year’s presidential election.
Trump’s presidency has unfolded under a black cloud of accusations surrounding his campaign’s relations with Russia following his defeat of Democratic rival Clinton last year.
