US president-elect Donald Trump has bizarrely rescheduled a meeting with The New York Times just hours after cancelling the original meeting with the newspaper due to changes in "terms and conditions".

Over the weekend, Trump met with several media executives and high-profile journalists, reportedly berating them for how they covered his campaign for the White House.

Both Trump and the Times said that it was the other party who had changed the terms of the meeting, and Trump sent a series of tweets criticising the publication.

"I cancelled today's meeting with the failing nytimes when the terms and conditions of the meeting were changed at the last moment. Not nice," Trump tweeted earlier.

"Perhaps a new meeting will be set up with the nytimes. In the meantime they continue to cover me inaccurately and with a nasty tone!" he added.

The New York Times responded to Trump's claims by denying that they had attempted to change the conditions agreed.

"We were unaware that the meeting was cancelled until we saw the President Elect's tweet this morning," it said in a statement.

"We did not change the ground rules and made no attempt to."

However, mere hours after the tweets and following a statement from The Times, Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks informed the press that the meeting would go ahead.
