Trump supports profiling in wake of New York bombing

US presidential candidate Donald Trump has said he is in favour of racial profiling with regards to terrorism, after a bomb exploded leaving 29 people injured in New York on Saturday.

The Republican nominee cited Israel as an example of where a system of profiling works as a security measure. He has previously said that he would also be in favour of "extreme vetting" and a ban on Muslims entering the US from countries affected by terrorism.

"In Israel they profile. They've done an unbelievable job as good as you can do, and they'll profile. They see somebody that's suspicious they will profile. They will take that person and they'll check them," Trump said.

The New York businessman was speaking on Fox & Friends on Monday morning in response to the attack, as well as the discovery of other devices in New Jersey.

"We're trying to be so politically correct in our country and this is only going to get worse. This isn't going to get better. And I've been talking to you guys for years, and I've been saying it."

Trump earlier tweeted criticism aimed towards current president Barack Obama and election rival Hillary Clinton which accused them of allowing the US to be vulnerable to attack.

"Under the leadership of Obama & Clinton, Americans have experienced more attacks at home than victories abroad," Trump tweeted.

The investigation into the explosion in the Chelsea area of Manhattan has led police to identify 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami as a suspect in the case.

Clinton has called on those within the US to be "vigilant, but not afraid" in the wake of the attack.
