Marine Le Pen, leader of France's National Front Party, has said that Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections is a sign that "shows that people are taking their future back", and maintains she will do the same in next year's election in her own country.

Le Pen is expected to be one of the front-runners in the French presidential election next year, and she was speaking during an interview with US news channel CNN.

She said that Trump's win opens doors for her and many others on the right, who previously had their views quashed by many who thought that he had no path to victory.

"Donald Trump has made possible what was presented as completely impossible," Le Pen told CNN. "So it's a sign of hope for those who cannot bear wild globalisation. They cannot bear the political life led by the elites."

Le Pen has led the right-wing party since 2011 with policies heavily-focused on issues such as immigration and euro-scepticism.

"This win also kills the argument used by my opponents about isolation," she said.

"They say, 'The policies that, you, Marine Le Pen have, have isolated you.' I feel less isolated today because of the multi-polar world defended by Donald Trump but also by Theresa May and Vladimir Putin."
