Trade talks between Washington and Beijing are nearing a successful conclusion and are now ongoing on a daily basis, the White House's top economic official said.

Larry Kudlow, the US national economic advisor, made the remarks following an event at the US Council on Foreign Relations, where Donald Trump's trade advisors reportedly met to discuss trade.

Reports published during the previous session had indicated that China was loathe to specify numerical targets and set out a schedule for ramping up its purchases of US agricultural goods to $50.0bn annually.

Chinese officials had also recently been pushing in public for the US to agree to rolling back some of trade tariffs already in place as part of any deal, although Trump had yet to agree to that.

On the flip side, in just the last week, both sides had lifted bans on imports of poultry products from the other, a possible indication for some observers that underneath the surface trade tensions were continuing to thaw.
