US CPI rises for first time in three months in October

The US consumer price index (CPI) rose for the first time in three months in October, figures released on Tuesday showed.
According to the Labor Department, CPI declined 0.2% month-on-month last month, up from the 0.2% decline recorded in September and in line with economists' expectations.
On a year-on-year basis, the rate of growth rose from 0.0% a month ago to 0.2% in October, slightly above analysts’ estimates for a 0.1% gain.
Excluding food and energy, so-called consumer prices rose 0.2% month-on-month in August, in line with expectations and growing at the same pace they did in the previous month.
On an annual basis, the core CPI index was unchanged at 1.9% in October, in line with forecast.
