US factory gate inflation slips back into negative in May

Factory gate inflation Stateside printed negative again in May, despite large gains in prices for energy and trade.

So-called total final demand prices increased by 0.4% month-on-month (consensus: 0.3%), with prices for goods rising by 0.7% over the month and those for services by 0.2%.

In comparison with a year ago, total final demand prices slipped from a rate of advance of 0.0% year-on-year in April to -0.1% in May (consensus: 0.0%).

Less food, energy and trade final demand prices slipped 0.1% over the month while the year-on-year rate of increase slipped from 0.9% to 0.8%.
