US goods trade deficit yawns wider in March

America's shortfall on trade in goods with the rest of the world yawned wider still last month amid a sharp drop in exports.

According to the Department of Commerce, in seasonally adjusted terms, the deficit on the US trade in goods balance jumped by 7.2% month-on-month to reach $64.2bn.

Exports weakened by 6.7% versus March to hit $127.6bn, while imports were 2.5% lower at $191.9bn.
