The US jobs market continued to be in good health last month, according to the results of a widely followed survey.
Consultant ADP´s monthly estimate of private sector payrolls revealed a 237,000 person increase in June, higher than the 211,000 expected by economists.
That followed a 203,000 print for the month before.
The service sector contributed the most to the improvement in the labour market, generating 225,000 new positions, after an increase of 192,000 in May, while the goods producing sector saw employment increase by 12,000.
Smaller firms, defined as those with between 1 and 49 staff on payrolls, boosted hiring by 120,000 persons in June, followed by 86,000 new jobs at meidum-sized companies.
Professional and business services saw the fastest pace of new jobs, with a 61,000 person rise.
"We view the ADP employment numbers as less reliable than the official statistics from the Labor Department, though this morning’s report is, on balance, supportive of our modestly above-consensus forecast of 240k (consensus: 225k) for private payrolls growth in tomorrow’s employment report," analysts at Barclays Research said in a report e-mailed to clients.
