US wants to reach a trade deal with China, Kudlow tells CNBC
The US President wants to reach a deal with China, but it has to be the right one, a top White House official said.
In remarks to CNBC's 'Sqwuak on the Street', US national economic council director, Larry Kudlow, reportedly said that: "In the course of his tweets and his conversations with the trade team, [Donald Trump] would like to continue negotiations.
"He would like to make a deal. It has to be the right deal for the United States. We would much prefer a commercial transaction.
"The reality is we would like to negotiate," Kudlow reportedly added during an interview.
"We're planning for the Chinese team to come here in September. Things could change with respect to the tariffs."
Kudlow reportedly also declined to comment on a report in the Wall Street Journal which said he was against new tariffs.
