After last week's fiery debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton ahead of the US presidential election in November, Tuesday will see their respective running mates Mike Pence and Tim Kaine go at it in another televised debate.

The event will take place in Richmond, Virginia, and will broadly follow a similar pattern to last week's debate hosted by Lester Holt.

Republican Pence is a former governor of Indiana, and was seen as a sensible choice for Trump, a less controversial voice to complement the boisterous tone of the New York billionaire.

Kaine is a senator from Virginia who has previously held the post of chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Another debate between the primary candidates Trump and Clinton will take place on Sunday night in St.Louis, as the Democrat nominee appears to stretch her lead in national polls.

Trump has faced criticism since the first debate after Clinton mentioned Alicia Machado, a former Miss Universe contestant who was reportedly insulted by the billionaire, initiating a war of words between the pair.
