Weekly US jobless claims remain unchanged, top forecasts

There was a bit more slack than expected in the US jobs market during the latest week.

According to the US Department of Labor, in seasonally adjusted terms the number of initial unemployment claims was steady over the week ending on 10 June at 262,000.

But economists had been expecting a decline to 245,000.

Secondary jobless claims, which are those not being filed for the first time and referencing the week that ended on the 3 June, rose by 20,000 to reach 1.775m.
