US pre-open: Futures broadly flat ahead of FOMC meeting

Wall Street futures were little changed ahead of the bell on Tuesday as investors await the outcome of this week's FOMC meeting.

As of 1200 BST, Dow Jones futures were up 0.08% and S&P 500 futures were 0.04% firmer, while Nasdaq-100 futures were 0.13% lower.

The Dow closed 94.28 points higher on Monday, with all three major indices hitting fresh intraday highs before closing at records levels.

The session's primary focus will likely be the beginning of the Federal Reserve's potentially market-moving two-day Federal Open Market Committee meeting takes place this week, while in the corporate space, Under Armour, Pfizer and Lyft will all report earnings on Tuesday.

AvaTrade's Naeem Aslam said: "Futures in the United States are down while those in Europe are up after US manufacturing data came in lower than expectations. Nonetheless, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was able to achieve another record high by pounding its way above the 36,000 level.

"The S&P 500 index also gained ground, owing to gains in consumer discretionary and energy stocks. Over the next few days, investors will be watching the FOMC meeting, the employment numbers, and the OPEC meeting, which can potentially cause volatility in stock markets."

No major data points were slated for publication on Tuesday.
