US pre-open: Futures in the green following Facebook earnings
Wall Street futures were pointing to a positive open ahead of the bell on Tuesday after the Dow Jones registered yet another record close in the previous session
As of 1220 BST, Dow Jones futures were up 0.34%, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures had the indices opening 0.38% and 0.55% firmer, respectively.
The Dow closed 64.13 points higher on Monday, building on the record-setting gains seen at the tail end of last week.
AvaTrade's Naeem Aslam said: "American futures are trading higher while European futures are flat after stock markets in the United States touched record highs in yesterday's session. Investors are optimistic regarding the earnings reports of technology companies but should weigh their potential gains against risks of rising coronavirus cases and surging inflation."
Facebook shares were in the green ahead of the bell after the social media behemoth posted earnings that topped expectations on the street but fell short on both revenue and monthly active users, while UPS was also trading higher on the back of strong beats on profit and revenue across all segments and 3M stock advanced after beating earnings on the top and bottom lines.
Hasbro reported strong revenue, operating profit and earnings growth, and Eli Lilly boosted full-year guidance despite reporting a drop in profits during the third quarter of its trading year.
Still to come, Alphabet, Twitter, AMD and Microsoft will all publish their latest quarterly earnings reports after the close.
On the macro front, August's house price index will be published at 1400 BST, while September's new home sales figures and the Conference Board's October consumer confidence report will follow at 1500 BST.
