US open: Major indies kick off 2023 with modest losses
Wall Street stocks were little changed on Tuesday as market participants continue to search for direction in 2023.
As of 1510 GMT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.06% at 33,128.82, while the S&P 500 lost 0.07% to 3,837.00 and the Nasdaq Composite came out the gate 0.20% weaker at 10,445.49.

Stocks registered early losses on Tuesday after major indices wrapped up 2022 with their worst full-year performance since the Global Financial Crisis in 2008. The Dow Jones saw out the year 8.8% lower, while the S&P 500 shed 19.4% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq ended 2022 33.1% weaker.
In focus on Tuesday, the International Monetary Fund's managing director Kristalina Georgieva cautioned that 2023 would be a tough year for the global economy as the US, China, and Europe all battle with weakening economic output.
On the macro front, S&P Global's December manufacturing purchasing managers was unrevised at 46.2 in December - marking the biggest contraction in factory activity since May 2020, amid weak client demand.
Elsewhere, construction spending rose 0.2% in November, according to the Census Bureau, bouncing back from the previous month's downwardly revised 0.2% dip and ahead of expectations for a 0.4% drop.
No major corporate earnings were slated for release on Tuesday.
