The governor of the Bank of England (BoE) Mark Carney will give a speech on Thursday at 1500 BST at Threadneedle Street.

The announcement was made on the BoE's website but no further details about the speech have been reported.

In the aftermath of the country voting to leave the European Union on the 24 June, Carney sought to calm the financial market’s fears that the central bank would take any measures needed to ensure economic stability.

Carney said in his last speech on Friday that the BoE had drawn up contingency plans and UK banks were in a better shape to deal with Brexit than they were before the financial crash in 2008.

He also said there would be period of uncertainty but he would be prepared to give £250bn to financial organisations so they would not run out of money.
