Newest member of the Bank of England's (BoE) Monetary Policy Committee Gertjan Vlieghe is feeling relaxed about a slightly longer wait before increasing interest rates, he said over the weekend.

The British-Belgian, who was appointed to the MPC in September, wants economic growth to "stabilise, or even pick up a bit" and pay growth to be clearly headed higher before interest rates are increased.

He told the Sunday Times there has been "a little bit of disappointment" in terms of wage growth, and pointed out that economic growth has slowed in the last year-and-a-half.

"I am relaxed about waiting a little longer before we start," he said.
