Cable slumps after YouGov poll shows large jump in support of Brexit

The latest polls of voting intentions ahead of the 23 June referendum appeared to show a further large increase in support for ‘Leave’ which immediately weighed on the pound.

According to the latest YouGov poll published in The Times on Tuesday, support for Brexit jumped by three percentage points to 46.0% over the latest week, while support for ‘Remain’ lost another three percentage points to stand at just 39.0%, with 11.0% of voters saying they were undecided and another 4.90% that they would not vote.

An ORB poll conducted on behalf of The Daily Telegraph put support for ‘Leave’ at 49.0%, versus ‘Remain’ at 48.0%.

On Monday, two polls carried out by ICM for The Guardian showed ‘Remain’ had increased its lead from 52.0% last week to 53.0%, while ‘Remain’ had seen its support whittled down to 47.0%.

As of 08:21 BST cable was 1.0% lower at 1.4128.
