David Cameron has no plans to rush into setting the date of the referendum on Britain's membership in the European Union (EU).

According to a report in the Sunday Telegraph, the prime minister said that his renegotiation of the country's links with the EU had been "bloody hard work", but called on his supporters to be patient.

His fellow country leaders across the EU had "plenty of time" to review his requests, he was quoted as saying.

Cameron has pledged to hold a referendum on the issue of Europe by the end of 2017.
