Seismologists at the British Geological Survey (BGS) confirmed early on Friday morning that a earthquake 4.3 on the Richter scale took place at 02:52 on the Kent coast.

BGS created a map based on reports made by citizens in order to establish the main points where the quake was felt. It confirmed the epicentre was near Ramsgate, but tremors were felt in different areas such as Margate, Canterbury and Southend-on-Sea, Essex.

Local police and the fire and rescue services confirmed the news early on Friday, and added that they had not received any reports of injuries or infrastructure damage.

“We will continue to liaise with our partner agencies to ensure we are providing help and support in any areas needed," a police spokesman said.
