MPs will be able to vote on the final Brexit deal reached with Brussels before it goes to the European Parliament, a move by the government to fend off a potential Conservative rebellion.

Brexit minister David Jones, told the House of Commons on Tuesday that both houses of Parliament will get to vote on the final deal to leave the European Union.

Labour MPs had been calling for greater clarity on whether MPs would get a “meaningful" vote on the deal as opposed to a “take it or leave it” vote.

He said: “The government will bring forward a motion on the final agreement to be approved by both houses of parliament before it is concluded.

“We expect and intend that this will happen before the European parliament debates and votes on the final agreement.”

Jones also said that if Britain and EU could not come to an agreement within two years , Britain would “fall back” on to World Trade Organisation arrangements.
