Tottenham Hotspur’s new 61,000 seat stadium has been given the green light by Haringey Council.

Detailed plans for the new multi-purpose complex, which is set to cost £400m, were unveiled in September.

Late last night, the English Premier League club tweeted that Haringey Council’s Planning Sub Committee approved the club’s new stadium proposals.

The stadium, which includes a 17,000 seat single-tier ‘home’ stand at the southern end, now has to be approved by the Greater London Authority.

If it goes ahead, it will be England’s fourth largest stadium behind Wembley, Twickenham and Old Trafford, and will be just bigger than Arsenal’s 60,432-seat Emirates Stadium.

There are also plans for the new stadium to host two NFL games a year over 10 years, with a dedicated pitch and facilities included in the plans.

The new stadium is due to be completed by August 2018, just in time for the 2018/19 EPL season.

The first phase of the Northumberland Development Project was completed in February with Lilywhite House, which led to over 400 new jobs created in the area.
