UK consumer confidence hits six-month low in November

UK consumer confidence declined to a six-month low in November, figures released on Friday showed.
According to data published from research company GfK, the consumer sentiment index declined from 2 points to 1 in October, the lowest level since May and falling short of analysts’ expectations for an unchanged reading.
The sub-index gauging personal financial situation over the last 12 months fell from 4 to 1, while the indices measuring general economic situation over the last 12 months and expectations over the next year both fell to -6.
Meanwhile, the major purchase index rose from 7 to 9.
"Overall, despite the good news agenda of rock-bottom inflation, falling fuel prices and higher wage growth boosting spending power, confidence appears to be depressed by a combination of wider economic, political and social events," said Joe Staton, head of market dynamics at GfK.
