UK growth grew at just 0.6% in the quarter ended September, a report due out this week is set to reveal.

This is down from growth of 0.7% in the previous quarter, with the slowdown blamed on weaker construction and manufacturing output.

"Given that fiscal consolidation implies only negligible growth in public services, which represents around one-fifth of GDP, and that manufacturing is facing significant difficulties, this means that around one-third of the UK economy is likely to remain mired in a state of broad stagnation over the next quarter or two," chief UK economist at RBS told the Sunday Telegraph.

Construction output declined 4.3% in August, having dropped 1% in July. Industrial production rose 1% August, but this followed a 0.4% drop the previous month.
