UK inflation expectations for the year ahead held steady at 1.5%, although the average man on the street was increasingly uncertain about the outlook for prices, the most recent survey from Citi/YouGov found.

The share of people who replied they "did not know" how quickly prices would rise over the coming year hit its highest since 2006, the poll found.

Longer-term expectations for tha rate of price increases picked up to 2.8%.

Should prices advance over coming months as was expected then inflation expectations would gain in line with them, economists at Citi said..
