Aggreko added an air of diplomacy to its board on Thursday, announcing the appointment of Dame Nicola Brewer as a non-executive director, with immediate effect.
The FTSE 250 firm said Brewer was currently Vice Provost International at University College London, and was a former senior diplomat at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and a British High Commissioner to South Africa.
She had also worked for the Department for International Development, where she developed aid programmes in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.
"We are delighted to welcome Nicola to the board," said Aggreko chairman Ken Hanna.
"Her extensive geo-political and diplomatic experience will be of great benefit to Aggreko as we continue to support the development of energy infrastructures in developing markets," he added.
The company's board also confirmed that Robert MacLeod was retiring as a non-executive director with effect from the close of its AGM on 28 April.
Ian Marchant, also a non-executive director, would succeed MacLeod as chairman of the audit committee.
MacLeod was being appointed as a non-executive director of various RELX Group companies, subject to shareholder approval at their AGMs on 20 and 21 April.
"Robert is stepping down from the board having served nearly nine years as a non-executive, including nearly eight years as audit committee chairman," said Hanna.
"He has been a major influence in Aggreko's development and he leaves with our best wishes for the future," he concluded.
