Anglo American announces management changes in South Africa

Anglo American announced changes to its leadership structure in South Africa following a detailed governance review.

The company said it expects the changes to bring greater effectiveness and alignment across the group’s diversified mining businesses in South Africa.

The changes, which take effect on 1 June, include the appointment of group chief executive Mark Cufitani to the role of chairman of the Anglo Americn South Africa board, following current chairman Michael Spicer’s decision to retire.

Kumba Iron Ore CEO Norman Mbazima will assume the role of deputy chairman of AASA while continuing to lead the Kumba business.

In addition, Andile Sangpu has been appointed to the newly-established role of executive head of Anglo American South Africa.

Cutifani said: “These are important changes and demonstrate Anglo American's commitment to playing an active and leading role in the ongoing development of a responsible, sustainable and competitive business and mining sector in South Africa. “
