Antofagasta confirms death of 34-year veteran director Menendez
Antofagasta on Monday confirmed that long-serving non-executive director Gonzalo Menendez passed away over the weekend following a period of illness.
The 70-year-old had served as chief executive of Antofagasta Holdings and had been a non-executive director since 1985, though his involvement with the FTSE 100-listed copper miner dates back to the beginning of the 1980s, when he was appointed general manager of its railway business.
The company said that since then, Menendez had played a key role in its growth and development as he most recently made contributions to stewardship and oversight.
