Babcock International said the UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed its decision to award the group a six-year contract for the provision and management of its 'white fleet' of non-combat vehicles.

The engineering support services company said the Phoenix II contract replaces its existing Phoenix I white fleet contract, which was awarded back in 2011.

The new contract, which is subject to an obligatory standstill period of no less than 10 calendar days, is expected to kick in on 29 February.

At 1116 GMT, Babcock shares were up 2.4% to 914p.
