Premier Oil has appointed industry veteran Iain Macdonald as an independent non-executive director with effect from 1 May.

In a statement to the London Stock Exchange, the oil and gas company also said Macdonald will be joining its audit and risk committee, and stand for election by shareholders at the annual general meeting on 11 May.

Macdonald spent three decades at BP in a variety of engineering, management and finance roles, and served as deputy group chief financial officer for three years.

He left BP in 2010 to join North Sea oil and gas independent Fairfield Energy as CFO where he served until 2014. Macdonald was also non-executive director of TNK-BP Ltd from 2009 to 2011 and became a non-executive director of Skills For Health in 2013, a role he continues to hold at present.
