British Land has appointed Roger Madelin to head up the development of its 46 acre Canada Water site in south London.
The property developer said Madelin, who was at Argent since 1987 and was chief executive from 1997 to 2012, will join the company at the beginning of next year and will also sit on the Executive Committee.
British Land acquired Surrey Quays Leisure Park in March this year, completing assembly of the Canada Water site, which also includes Surrey Quays Shopping Centre and Harmsworth Quays.
The combined sites have potential for around 5.5million sq ft of office, retail, residential, leisure, educational and community space, the company said.
British Land said it is currently working with the London Borough of Southwark and local communities to deliver the Canada Water Masterplan and expects to submit a planning application by the end of next year.
Chief executive Chris Grigg said: “Roger Madelin is a highly experienced developer and brings enormous experience of delivering major mixed-use developments. Placemaking lies at the heart of what we do and I look forward to working with Roger to create a vibrant new destination for London that caters for a wide range of modern needs.”
At 0820 GMT, British Land shares were up 0.1% at 853.00p.
