Outsourcing group Capita has appointed former Amec Foster Wheeler boss Jon Lewis as chief executive to continue its turnaround.

Lewis, who had a 20-year career at oil services giant Halliburton before joining Amec last year and overseeing its takeover by John Wood, will take his seat at Capita from 1 December and allow interim CEO Nick Greatorex to resume his role as finance director.

Capita's previous CEO Andy Parker decided back in March that he would step down later in the year after 17 years at the group and left just before the recent set of results.

In an announcement to the stock market, the FTSE 250 group highlighted Lewis' "wide range of executive and leadership expertise", including his "experience in technology-enabled services businesses, and a track record of delivering value from strategic business transformations".

Part of his time at Halliburton was running its Landmark software business, a provider of data management and analytics, science, software, and consulting services for the international oil and gas exploration and production industry.

“Jon is a proven, successful business leader with the ideal blend of experience to lead the transformation of Capita," said chairman Ian Powell.

"He brings strategic vision and a strong track record throughout his career of growing high value, technology-enabled services businesses through securing and developing major client relationships in both the private and public sectors. Jon's business and leadership experience combined with an inspirational, collegiate style make him a great fit for Capita.

"He shares my enthusiasm for the business and has the drive, ambition and ability to lead Capita to a successful future.”
