The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on Friday that the partnership between Microsoft and Mistral AI did not qualify for a full investigation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act.

The decision marked the end of the competition regulator’s phase one inquiry, which was only officially launched on Thursday.

Prior to that, the CMA invited public comments by 24 April to assess whether the partnership could potentially create a relevant merger situation and, if so, whether it could lead to a substantial lessening of competition in any UK market.

After reviewing the comments and further analysis, the CMA confirmed on Friday that the Microsoft-Mistral AI partnership did not meet the criteria for further investigation.
