Video game developer and publisher Codemasters confirmed the release of ‘Project CARS 3’ on Friday for Sony’s PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s Xbox One, and the PC platform via Steam.

The AIM-traded firm said the game, developed by Slightly Mad Studios, is a motorsport simulation with real-world driver assists that cater for all levels of driving experience.

It said it boasts the biggest car roster in franchise history, with more than 210 vehicles, including new brands such as Bugatti, Dodge and Koenigsegg.

The game also features the Lotus Evija, which makes its debut in a video game, and takes players to new locations including Tuscany, Havana, Jerez and Interlagos.

Project CARS is one of the franchises that makes up Codemasters' portfolio of racing titles including DIRT, GRID and the F1 series of games.

The company said it would release DIRT 5 from 16 October, which would be Codemasters' first title on next-generation consoles.

“Project CARS 3 has been a labour of love for our Slightly Mad Studios team, and we are proud to share their most ambitious title with the racing community,” said chief executive officer Frank Sagnier.

“The game boasts the biggest and most exclusive car roster, new exotic locations, and delivers the ultimate driving experience that takes players from weekend warrior to racing legend.”

At 1346 BST, shares in Codemasters Group Holdings were up 0.62% at 391.4p.
